My Small Stone for Mindful Writing Day

Today is Mindful Writing Day, when we are invited to write a Small Stone – a “short piece of writing that precisely captures a fully-engaged moment”. Here is mine:

In the time it takes the kettle to boil,

A shaft of watery sunlight penetrates the misty gloom,

And settles on next door’s sycamore,

Fleetingly transforming its remaining leaves

Into burnished gold,

Dappled against the grey autumn morning.

More Small Stones by other writers can be found here at A Handful of Stones. Why not have a go at one yourself?
